Приземистая птица величиной с дрозда. В зимнем оперении серый, на верхней части оперения продольные пестрины и перья окаймлены тёмными полосами. низ оперения светло-серый. В летнем оперении у самца низ оперения однотонно рыжий, у самки рыжий в беловатую крапинку. Во время перелётов эти птицы собираются плотными стаями, которые иногда насчитывают до нескольких тысяч особей. Снято на территории национального парка "Куршская коса".
