The goldenrod soldier has been identified as an important pollinator of prairie onions. Adults are active in late summer and early autumn. The beetle prefers yellow flowers. The species is native to North America and is one of the most common soldier species in the Midwest. It often falls victim to the parasitic fungus Eryniopsis lampyridarum. This fungus is fatal to the soldier about 2 weeks after infection.
