Памятник 800-летию Вологды был установлен в 1959 году в самой древней части Вологды - на набережной одноименной реки недалеко от Соборной горки и Вологодского кремля. Монумент был воздвигнут на месте, где раньше стояла церковь Воскресения Христова, о которой упомянул в своей летописи Преподобный Герасим.
