Judging by the weather outside, summer is almost here and this reminds me of sea and sand. So I decided to delve into the archives and found this.
The story behind the shot:
Chania is a beautiful town - famous for its characteristic venetian-style houses and the pretty anutique harbour (as well as for being the capital of one of the four Cretan prefectures). A paradise for the photographer - if you have weather on your side.
When I was there the sun was bright and high in the sky and the sky itself was dull blue. Normal people totally fall for this kind of weather - after all, it's warm, it's nice to be outside and the sky is spotless. Not me, though. Because photographers are NOT normal people and need some drama.
So, while I was strolling around the harbour and taking pictures I saw those two sitting on a bench. Shots of people are not my exactly my element but I couldn't resist capturing this.
For the record - the lighthouse in the background is a famous building - there are several almost identical buildings all over Crete - one in Rethymno, for sure. Chania is famous with that one, though (as well as with a few other buidings I'll show you some other time).
Photoadvice:
The Venetian harbour is crammed with tourists, carriages and all kinds of people so you'll have a harder time getting a shot WITHOUT people in it than the other way round. The harbour is really picturesque in the late afternoon or after the sun goes down but you'll have to find an accommodation in the area.
