Metcalfa pruinosa is the only species representing the Flatidae family in Quebec. Sometimes solitary but usually found in groups of several individuals, it is easily identifiable. The adult seen in profile is rectangular. The wax covering it gives it a color ranging from gray to brown. Black spots are present at the base of the wings. The nymphs are white and often buried in groups under a thick layer of wax.
