Lightning bolt and powerline corridor in the Raton-Clayton volcanic field, Colfax County, New Mexico, USA. I was out on a drive and watched this storm build in the distance. For my return trip, I had the option of looping near the storm, so of course, I chose that option. I got super lucky to get that lightning bolt, since I wasn't even attempting to photograph the lightning. I was holding the camera to my eye and saw the bolt as I was pressing the shutter. I could still see the bolt after I shot the photo, so I knew I got it! This was not a long exposure (1/250s), and I didn't use a lightning trigger. This storm really wasn't generating too much lightning, which made this even more fortunate. I was seeing one bolt maybe every 30s.
