The Quebec black longhorn beetle or White-spotted sawyer (Monochamus scutellatus) is a forest beetle that lays its eggs in the bark of weakened trees. The larva digs galleries that depreciate the wood, encouraging the growth of fungi. The adult, with its long antennae, emerges in summer and can be heard chewing wood. Economic losses in affected areas can reach several thousand dollars per hectare.
