Have you ever seen this type of American thick-knee, or Hesperoburhinus bistriatus? Today I want to introduce you to it.
It’s a species that lives in open areas like savannas, wetlands, and riverbanks. They’re mainly nocturnal or crepuscular, which explains those giant yellow eyes 
While on a safari through the Llanos of Casanare, I came across this pair. They were super calm, really close, and the golden hour light made them look even more spectacular.
I spent quite a while just watching them, soaking in the moment, until it was time to move on with the safari. One of those unplanned scenes that stays with you forever.
