White-capped Tanager (Sericossypha albocristata)
Tangara grande, escandalosa y llamativa. Es poco probable confundirla. En su mayoría son negruzco oscuro, pero busca la garganta rojo-satinado y alas azul-acerado iridiscente. Lo más distintivo es la gorra blanca que brilla como la nieve iluminada por el sol. Sexos similares; pero las hembras y los inmaduros tienen la garganta un poco más opaca. Nunca es común. Se encuentra en pequeñas bandadas que se mueven rápidamente a través del dosel de las zonas subtropicales y templadas en los Andes, a veces se percha visiblemente. El comportamiento y la voz recuerdan a una chara y suenan bastante similar, especialmente en la distancia. A veces anda con bandadas de Turquoise Jays.
